Cotypist is a smart autocomplete app for Mac that predicts your next words as you type, right inside any app you use. It runs entirely on your Apple Silicon Mac — no cloud, no data leaving your device. The goal is simple: let you type as fast as you think, without losing your voice. Just press Tab to accept a suggestion, or keep typing to override it. It’s free to start, with a 30-day Pro trial and a free plan for casual use.
What are the features of Cotypist?
- Inline Predictions: Suggestions appear directly in your text field, in any app — Mail, Slack, Notion, Chrome, and more. Tab to accept the next word, or keep typing to change the suggestion.
- Local Processing: All AI runs on your Mac. Your words never leave your device, so sensitive information stays private.
- Fast Adaptation: Cotypist learns your vocabulary, names, and phrasing style as you write. It gets better at sounding like you the more you use it.
- Emoji & Typo Fixes: Type a colon to get emoji suggestions, and Cotypist catches typos inline (e.g., “recieve” → “receive”) without pop-ups.
- Word-by-Word Acceptance: You can accept only part of a suggestion by pressing Tab repeatedly — perfect when you want a phrase but not the whole sentence.

How to use Cotypist?
- Install: Download the DMG, drag Cotypist into your Applications folder, and open it from there.
- Type Normally: Open any supported Mac app and start typing. Cotypist will show inline suggestions in gray.
- Accept a Suggestion: Press Tab to accept the next word. Press Tab again to accept the next word from the same suggestion.
- Override Suggestion: Keep typing if you don’t like the suggestion — Cotypist will update to match what you’re actually typing, usually within a letter or two.
- Use Emoji Suggestions: Type a colon (:) then start typing a shortcode, like
:smile— Cotypist will offer the emoji automatically. - Let It Learn: The more you write, the better Cotypist gets. Your style, names, and phrases are picked up over time.
